Power Rankings: April 29th-May 12th

Power Rankings: April 29th-May 12th
We’ve had an interesting few weeks with injuries haven’t we?  Jose Fernandez, Matt Wieters, Aramis Ramirez are just a few of the many injuries that seem to be plaguing teams this year.  So with this in mind lets take a look at this weeks Power Rankings.  For the new readers just a reminder on how this works; I look at the last 2 weeks of play and from there rank teams based on the numbers and some personal opinion
1) Detroit Tigers
2) San Francisco Giants
3) Oakland Athletics
4) Colorado Rockies
5) Los Angeles Dodgers
6) Los Angeles Angels
7) New York Yankees
8) Boston Red Sox
9) St. Louis Cardinals
10) Milwaukee Brewers
So there’s now over a month of data to work with and given that I have more info to start making my assumptions.  Detroit and San Francisco have just been great beating teams with offense and pitching.  The Tigers particularly have had a great pitching week and I’m interested to see where this goes.  Its time to take Colorado serious now, I still worry if they can keep up the pace away from the friendly confines of Coors Field but as of now they are proving that they can.  Both LA teams and New York are holding their own but all have some issue that keeps them from taking that step forward.  With Clayton Kershaw making his return to the rotation the Dodgers could very well make that jump and challenge the Giants.  The loss of Aramis Ramirez is going to hurt this team in the short term but were starting to see the pitching get a little tired and the hitting starting to cool off from that hot start.  The sad truth that we all knew would happen, they could still hold out but we shall see.

Bottom 5
            26) Tampa Bay Rays
            27) Philadelphia Phillies
            28) Arizona Diamondbacks
            29) Chicago Cubs
            30) Houston Astros

I had Tampa Bay being a World Series contender this year and wow have they fallen, I’ve stalled long enough putting them down here but yes they really are just this bad.  To be fair to them injuries have all but decimated they rotation and the offense hasn’t been terrible but the fact remains the pitching is bad this year.  Arizona has come a long way from being the whipping boys of the entire MLB to being slightly less bad, not much to say other than they are improving.  Houston finally makes its way to the bottom of the list but I should note that in this time frame they actually weren’t terrible but the did rank low enough that the fall is coming.
