Power Rankings: May 12th-26th

Power Rankings: May 12th-26th
Time again to look at this weeks Power Ranking and what a couple of weeks it’s been.  Injuries once again plague teams to the point where some teams have had most of there starting day roster hit the DL.  Once again to let new readers know how this works; I take the stats of the previous two weeks and use these along with my personal feelings to figure out a ranking of teams from best to worse moving forward.  So lets get started by looking at this weeks top 10 teams.
   1.     Detroit Tigers
   2.     San Francisco Giants
   3.     Oakland Athletics
   4.     Toronto Blue Jays
   5.     Los Angeles Angels
   6.     New York Yankees
   7.     Baltimore Orioles
   8.     St. Louis Cardinals
   9.     Los Angeles Dodgers
  10. Atlanta Braves
Readers of my power rankings from last season may notice something that didn’t happen all that much last season that’s happening this season.  My rankings seem to jump quite a bit, last rankings the Blue Jays just missed the cut now their the number 4 team.  Well that’s just how good they’ve been doing lately and its time to take them much more seriously.  Detroit, San Francisco and Oakland are all about the same place they were last time but I’m starting to notice the inconsistency tendency of Detroit creeping up again.  Los Angeles and Toronto are very similar teams.  Both teams are heavy hitters and just enough pitching to win games.  New York and Baltimore are no slouches either and just because Toronto is top dog now both these teams can sneak past them if they start to falter.  St. Louis is the only team I still look at as being better than the team ahead of them, I’ve lost a lot of faith in Milwaukee and I haven’t lost any in St. Louis.  LA Dodgers has a good chance to catch San Francisco but the chances are getting tougher to come by.  In the end San Fran is just a better team at the moment and by the deadline could get much better.
Atlanta is rounding out the top ten simply cause they’re in the lead in their division, but for how long?
Bottom 5
Now for everyone’s favorite part of the rankings, the worst of the bunch.  So lets see who tanked this time around and get a good laugh.  Or, if you’re a fan of these teams, join me in a collective face palm.
26. Texas Rangers
27. Tampa Bay Rays
28. Arizona Diamondbacks
29. Houston Astros
30. Chicago Cubs

Before we get the pitchforks out for having Texas down here let me explain.  This team is a train wreak and it’s a train wreak that keeps getting worse and worse every passing day.  The odds that this team are sellers by the deadline is actually growing just because the system is so dry that they can’t fix the problems they have now let a lot sustain itself to make a run for a playoffs next year.  No they won’t end the season down here but losing Prince Fielder for the season and Yu Darvish set to make his second DL stint of the season soon this team is going backwards fast.  Tampa isn’t fairing any better on the DL front as Texas and the system, for all its reported depth, is starting to dry up from lack of talent or just already in use.  Arizona is actually clawing its way out from its historic bad run but the season is already over for them, of the teams down here though they have a strong chance at next season.  Houston actually had a very strong last 2 weeks lead by some of the young players stepping up.  They wont get out of the 29 hole any times soon but it is quite a sigh of relief to see them improving.  Chicago is just bad.  I’m not sure what else to say about them honestly, I mean come on you finally got Jeff Samardzija his first win of the season after what 8 starts?  Has a super bright future but like the Astros its going to take time to get there.
